Falken’s EV-specific e. ZIEX tyre set to make European debut in the first half-year

Falken Tyre Europe’s new-for-2023 e. ZIEX tyre, designed specifically for EVs and vehicles that rely on ultra-low rolling resistance to maximise their range, is set to make its world debut in March 2023.

The e.ZIEX, first revealed at The Tire Cologne trade show in May 2022, is one of the most energy-efficient tyres ever developed by the Sumitomo Rubber Group.

Its asymmetric tread pattern, developed using the brand’s Advanced 4D Nano Design technology, features optimised tread edges that prevent pressure peaks by distributing pressure from the tyre smoothly. This in turn improves the tyre’s level of grip in both wet and dry conditions and extends the life of the tyre by ensuring it wears evenly. The tread pattern is also optimised at the contour of the tyre shoulder, lowering its rolling resistance, extending the vehicle’s range; an essential attribute for EV road users.

With refinement and near silent running a comfort benefit EVs, the e. ZIEX complements this with a seamless, continuous sipe edge contact that reduces the tyre’s noise level significantly. This is achieved via an advanced offset tread groove arrangement. Falken’s cutting-edge SILENT CORE technology also works to reduce the tyre noise. The polyurethane foam layer inside the tyre minimises the e. ZIEX’s cavity resonance substantially.

Falken has also made a conscious effort to ensure the tyre forms part of the Japanese company’s drive to move towards a sustainable future for its tyre range.

Provisional EU classification of the label values confirms that the e. ZIEX is classed as an “A” for fuel consumption, “A” for wet grip and “A” for its noise emissions of 69 dB.

The e. ZIEX will initially be available in 11 sizes between 17 and 21 inches, before a wider rollout of additional sizes in 2024.

“We are excited for our new e. ZIEX tyre to make its European debut in March,” says Andreas Giese, Chief Corporate Officer. “This tyre is the first step towards a future for Falken where EV-specific tyres will form a core part of our range. The e. ZIEX combines comfort, safety, durability and strong performance levels, delivering the ultimate replacement electric vehicle tyre for Falken customers.”

With excellent results, the Falken e. ZIEX can already convince in an independent test in "auto motor sport" in spring 2023: In the latest product comparison of the trade magazine, the lightest tyre in the test receives the top mark "very good" and convinces the testers with the best rolling resistance, the best range and the best rolling noise

The Audi Q6 e-tron: quiet, low-resistance driving with Falken tyres

Tyres for electric and hybrid vehicles have to satisfy special requirements: they should offer low rolling resistance, guarantee optimum traction on all surfaces and be able handle heavy loads at the same time. The Falken tyres meet these requirements. Since May 2023 and November 2023, Falken Tyre Europe has been supplying its e. ZIEX AO model in the 235/65R18 H XL and 255/60R18 H XL sizes to the Audi plant in Ingolstadt, where the successful AUDI Q6 e-tron is currently leaving the production lines.
