Falken summer tyre receives top marks in the 2022 ADAC tyre wear test
The Falken AZENIS FK510 premium tyre has been awarded top marks in the 2022 ADAC tyre wear test
Achieving the same tally of points as another premium provider, not only did the Falken AZENIS FK510 SUV secure third place on the winner’s podium in the summer tyre test from Promobil magazine, it was also awarded the title of “price-performance winner”. Summer tyres in the 235/55R17 size were put to the test on a Volkswagen model T 6.1, which is commonly known in Germany as the “VW Bulli”.
Due to the specialist requirements regarding the tyres on a camper van, the testers focused particularly strongly on load-bearing capacity when choosing the tyres. This has to be as high as possible – but without having a negative impact on the driving comfort or safety. All in all, eight tyres from different manufacturers were put to the test.
The Falken tyre was awarded the maximum number of points, ten out of ten, for both wet- and “dry handling according to time” as well as for “ride comfort” and “interior noise”. The “supreme discipline” of a summer tyre is its performance in wet conditions, which is why the testers gave this category a particularly high weighting of 40%. With a braking distance of 32.6 metres on wet asphalt from a speed of 80 km/h, the Falken tyre was just 0.5 metres behind the winner in this category, and succeeded in securing a rating of “good”. The testers gave the tyre a rating of “very good” in the category of wet handling: in this respect, it was necessary to achieve a maximum average speed on a handling course just under two kilometres in length. With an average speed of 71.6 km/h, the Falken AZENIS FK510 SUV outperformed the runner-up by precisely one kilometre per hour and won the group. The results in the other test categories were also more than respectable, though, which saw the testers arriving at an overall score of 8.6 and a rating of “recommendable”.
“Falken customers don’t have to make any compromises when they choose our tyres, whether in terms of safety or comfort,” explains Andreas Giese, Senior Manager Corporate Planning/Product Planning, expressing his delight with the result. “This independent test has once again impressively demonstrated that the quality of our tyres has now reached a premium level, and for a fair price.”
In an independent analysis of different tyre tests concerning price-performance ratio, the authors of NEUE REIFENZEITUNG magazine came to a similar conclusion: the tyres from Falken which were put under the microscope achieved a performance of well over eighty percent, but at only seventy percent of the average price – in comparison with the reference tyre, which scored 100 percent in both categories.
