New ‘reduced odour natural rubber’ offers pioneering, ‘greener’ solution for tyre factories
Sumitomo Rubber Industries develops technique deemed “a major step toward” in solving long-standing odour issues surrounding natural rubber
“In the Azenis FK510 SUV, Falken is launching an all-round successful tyre that produces a secure, very agile feel on all road conditions.” This is the assessment of the independent testers of Gute Fahrt magazine in their summer tyre test, which this year is focusing on SUV tyres. Seven SUV summer tyres in the dimension 215/50R18 were tested on a Volkswagen T-Roc, with a total of three of the tyres tested receiving the rating “Very good”.
The Azenis FK510 SUV achieved very good ratings particularly in the sections dry handling, wet braking and on the wet circuit. Here, the Falken tyre emerged as group winner with a maximum lateral acceleration of 8.09 m/s2. Also in wet braking: the Falken Azenis FK510 SUV had the second-shortest brake distance when braking in full from 100 km/h, at 38.84 m, as well as the lowest residual speed at less than 4 km/h. However, the other test values, such as wet handling, aquaplaning, dry braking and the noise properties were also all rated as good.
“The outstanding test results show that, with the Azenis FK510 for the SUV, we have once again succeeded in offering a highly secure and balanced tyre and thus have a tyre with premium properties in a growing and profitable segment in our portfolio,” says a delighted Andreas Giese, Senior Manager Corporate Planning and Product Planning at Falken Tyre Europe GmbH.
The Falken Azenis FK510 SUV has been on the market since 2017 and is now available in 46 dimensions, from 17–22 inch, in the series 30–65. Depending on the size, it has the speed index W/Y or (Y) and is thus approved for up to more than 300 km/h.
