Falken Tyres’ parent company Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd (SRI) has won the “Tire Technology of the Year Award” at the Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence. SRI’s “Performance Sustaining Technology”, which makes use of hydrogenated polymer to extend tyre life, was recognised at the event in Hannover, with the award presented to Dr Bernd Löwenhaupt, SRI Europe’s managing director.
Falken is attending the AUTOPROMOTEC trade show (Bologna, 25-28 May) with a 194 square metre stand (Hall 20, A16/A22/B22). In a joint project between Falken’s parent company Sumitomo Rubber Industries and Professor Hiroshi Tani of Kansai University, Japan, an innovative power generator for tyres has been developed. It uses the rotation of a tyre to generate electricity and supply power to peripheral sensors installed in the tyre without relying on batteries.
Falken’s AZENIS FK510 has been awarded an “exemplary” rating by German sportscar magazine AUTOBILD in its summer tyre test, after placing third in the overall rankings. The AZENIS FK510s were found to have performed particularly well in the most important area for high-performance tyres: safety, finishing high up the order in both the wet and dry braking tests.
Falken’s iconic teal and blue livery will return to the ‘Green Hell’ again for the 2022 season, with Falken Motorsports announcing that it will send two Porsche 911 GT3 R and a stable of eight drivers to the Nordschleife for the annual 24-hour race and select Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) rounds.

The Falken film ‘Whatever Comes Our Way’ has won the award for Best Event Film at the 2021 International Motor Film Awards. The prestigious award, presented at a gala event in London on Wednesday, was given to one of two Falken productions nominated this year: ‘Pass the Wheel’ starring Peter Dumbreck in a classic Porsche 911 was nominated for Best Journalistic Film.
