Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. introduces Sensing Core, a technology aimed at minimising the risk of accidents caused by loose wheels and designed to work with every make, model and size of tyre. It analyses wheel speed signals and other data supplied by the vehicle’s Controller Area Network (CAN) in order to detect even the smallest loosening of the wheel nuts down to the millimetre scale. In 2024, the first OEM customer will add the technology to the standard equipment of its cars. Sensing Core is based on and an advancement of the original deflation warning system (DWS), an indirect tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
