Falken’s new online fan shop, offering Falken branded merchandise will make Falken fans’ hearts beat faster
Falken has completed a successful dress rehearsal for the legendary 24h race at Nürburgring: In the six-hour qualifying race, which gave teams and drivers the opportunity to get in the mood for the great endurance classic (June 3-6, 2021) last weekend, the two Porsche 911 GT3 R cars finished in sixth and 21st position.
The good performance gives hope. A week ago Falken already proved that the two Porsche 911 GT3 R cars can hold their own against strong GT3 competitors when Klaus Bachler and Martin Ragginger finished on the podium at the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS). Now the team impressed once again.
The #33 Porsche 911 GT3 R was driven by Alessio Picariello, Thomas Preining and Dirk Werner, while Lance David Arnold, Sven Müller and Martin Ragginger took turns in the #44 sister car. Klaus Bachler completed a double start behind the wheel in both cars.
Both Falken Porsches qualified with good lap times for the exciting top-30 qualifying, which was held immediately before the start of the race. The team achieved grid positions nine and eleven, so the basesline for the 6h race was good.
The beginning phase was turbulent. First, the #33 Porsche spun off the track in the first hour of racing, but fortunately did not hit the barrier. At the following pit stop the team earned a time penalty of 33 seconds - 32 seconds for falling short of the minimum service time plus one second penalty for the rounded-up sum of the time underrun of 0.1 seconds. In the second half of the race, there was another contact with the barrier. Even though this was relatively minor and the race could be finished, fast lap times were no longer possible. In the end the #33 achieved a 21st place.
The sister car with start number 44 took the advantage of the great performance of the Falken tires and drove a race without any incidents, so the Falken quartet was happy about sixth place in the strong field of participants.
The team is evaluating now the data collected from both Porsche 911 GT3 R in order to make final adjustments and prepare the cars for the legendary ADAC 24h race, which takes place from June 3-6. After the 24h qualifying race the hope remains that Falken will be able to fight for the all-important overall victory at the endurance classic.
