Top-5 ranking for Falken from a total of 50 tyres in the big AUTO BILD summer tyre test

In a few months’ time, cars and caravans will be heading south again, and for many people the best time of the year will be starting. The choice of tyres on a car plays a key role in ensuring that this start is a success, as driving conditions can sometimes take a turn for the worse: sudden heavy rains aren’t uncommon in Europe during the summer and aquaplaning can quickly become a challenge. Combined with high speeds, varying road surfaces and poor road drainage can also increase the risk of aquaplaning. This means summer tyres are required which successfully rise to these challenges.

That’s where the Falken ZIEX ZE310 ECORUN steps in. After all, it’s a tyre that performed especially well in the aquaplaning tests in the big 2022 summer tyre test by AUTO BILD magazine: it secured first place in aquaplaning, third place for lateral grip in wet conditions and fifth place in cornering aquaplaning, which made the tyre from Falken one of the safest in the test. And these results are no coincidence, as the 4-groove design used in the tread pattern on the Falken tyre that was tested has a relatively large contact area, which improves the water drainage several times over. The other advantages of the variable high-performance tread are its better traction and increased steering response, also at high speeds. The Adaptive Constant Pressure tread also ensures added grip. This means the load on the contact surface is evenly distributed, leading to added adhesion, a high degree of directional stability and an even wear pattern. The braking characteristics of the Falken ZIEX ZE310 ECORUN are also impressive: with a braking distance of 43.6 metres at 100 km/h, the Falken tyre was just 60 cm behind the first-placed tyre, and came in at third place in this category. The tyre also achieved good results in the categories of mileage and price-mileage ratio. And in the areas of dry braking and dry handling, its performance was also found to be impressive. In these categories, the Falken tyre outshone several of the traditional top dogs.

All in all, the testers rated the Falken ZIEX ZE310 ECORUN as having “very good aquaplaning properties, stable wet handling, short braking distances, dynamic dry handling, quiet passing noise and a competitive price,” and awarded it a test rating of “Good”.

“We are very satisfied with fifth place in this hard-fought environment,” said Andreas Giese, Senior Manager Corporate Planning/Product Planning at Falken Tyre Europe GmbH, in his comments on the results of the test. “Once again, the results demonstrate that we needn’t shy away from competition in the premium segment, and that with our tyres, our customers can stay on the safe side.”

A total of 50 tyres were tested, and after an initial safety and braking test, the 21 qualifiers underwent additional individual tests. The tyre dimension 215/55 R 17 was tested on a Volkswagen Passat. The ZIEX ZE310 ECORUN is available in 106 sizes, 14-19 inches in the 40 – 70 series, and the speed index H/V/W.
