Falken among Top-Ten at VLN final

Sven Müller’s and Patrick Pilet’s joy in their hard-won second place at the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring was to be short-lived, after a misdemeanour in a “Code 60 Zone” triggered a subsequent time penalty for Falken, relegating them from second to seventh place.

From 13th starting position, Porsche factory drivers Sven Müller (D) and Patrick Pilet (F) jostled their way towards the head of the 164-vehicle competitor field. Once again, the Falken team astounded onlookers with the excellent performance of its proprietary tyres that worked perfectly in unison with the new-generation Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Shortly before the end of the race, however, an incident occurred in the “Karussell” section of the track which would prove decisive for the result: in a so-called “Code 60 Zone”, the #4 Porsche was a few kilometres an hour above the 60 km/h speed limit that applies to all vehicles. The stewards are merciless in such cases, penalising even the smallest transgression; in Falken’s case, they imposed a 185-second time penalty, relegating the Müller / Pilet duo to seventh place.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t keep second place. But those are the rules, and we accept the decision without any ‘ifs and buts’. Ultimately, however, this in no way undermines our race performance – the car was literally flying today. We’d like to thank Porsche and the two drivers whose support was decisive for the outcome of today’s initially unscheduled race,” concluded Stefanie Olbertz, responsible for Falken’s motorsports commitment.
