Falken ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun among the top ten in the major AUTO BILD summer tyre test

The tyre tests by the trade journals are eagerly awaited every year. The first results are now in. At AutoBild, 55 candidates with the size 205/55 R 16 V were given the chance to prove themselves in this year’s summer tyre test. This dimension fits numerous compact cars such as the VW Golf and the Opel Astra. Among other achievements, the Falken ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun demonstrated a very good price/performance balance.

Before the test candidates were examined in detail, they were required to demonstrate their braking performance. As usual, only the 20 tyres of the 55 candidates that performed the best on wet and dry surfaces proceeded to the next round of tests. This hurdle was successfully overcome by the Falken tyre, leaving numerous competitors a long way behind. It therefore made it through to the next tests with ease.

In the disciplines on wet road surfaces, it was mainly the ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun that showed its strength. It was consistently among the top ten products in terms of lateral stability, handling, braking and aquaplaning when driving both straight ahead and when cornering, and convincingly demonstrated the safety designed into it, in some cases performing better than other premium products.

The Falken also showed no weakness on the dry road surface. In addition to the braking test already successfully completed by the Falken tyre, the journalists also measured the pass-by noise, with more expensive products once again coming second to the ZIEX. “The choice of tyres is decisive for driving dynamics and safety,” was one of the tester’s credos. The results of the ZIEX’s handling characteristics on dry road surfaces was therefore all the more pleasing, as it took first place, securing the best time achieved. The Falken tyre also failed to show any shortcomings in terms of ride comfort.

In the “Costs” category, the Falken has an advantage over the products later praised as “Exemplary”: it is possible to save up to 140 euros when buying a set of tyres. Although the ZIEX was criticised a little in terms of its overall mileage, it still achieved a good rating in terms of the balance of costs to mileage. Last but not least, it showed no weakness in rolling resistance and therefore keeps fuel consumption low.

In conclusion, the experienced testers considered the ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun to be a product with somewhat limited mileage but above all else many strengths: good safety reserves in aquaplaning, short dry braking distances and a dynamic performance during dry handling. Its shared seventh place in the final ranking is therefore a clear purchase recommendation for the product with the best label values in the test (C/ A/ A/ 67).

The Audi Q6 e-tron: quiet, low-resistance driving with Falken tyres

Tyres for electric and hybrid vehicles have to satisfy special requirements: they should offer low rolling resistance, guarantee optimum traction on all surfaces and be able handle heavy loads at the same time. The Falken tyres meet these requirements. Since May 2023 and November 2023, Falken Tyre Europe has been supplying its e. ZIEX AO model in the 235/65R18 H XL and 255/60R18 H XL sizes to the Audi plant in Ingolstadt, where the successful AUDI Q6 e-tron is currently leaving the production lines.
