Japanese tyre brand Falken admirably demonstrated the superior performance of its rain tyres during the fifth round of the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring: fourth place for the Porsche 911 GT3 R and fifth place for the BMW M6 GT3.
Once again, the Eifel welcomed its fans and the VLN Endurance Championship’s 160 race teams with adverse weather conditions. Heavy rainfalls and temperatures of under 10 °C were to accompany the drivers throughout the event.
Both Falken teams mastered this challenge, completing a rained out qualifying session with flying colours – with Klaus Bachler (A) and Martin Ragginger (A) securing themselves seventh starting position (9:26.429 min) in the #4 Porsche 911 GT3 R, and Peter Dumbreck (GB) and Alexandre Imperatori (CH) a short distance behind in twelfth place (9:51.617 min.) in the #3 BMW M6 GT3.
The race, too – which lasted the usual four hours – was characterised by the permanently changing surface conditions of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, which continued to switch between wet and dry. Despite these unfavourable fundamentals, however, the Falken team’s race strategists had a sixth sense for the choosing the right mix of tyres. In doing so, the performance of the rain tyres particular excelled, providing for maximum grip and fast lap times.
After 25 laps, Bachler and Ragginger finally passed the finishing line in the Porsche in a very respectable fourth placed, followed hot on their heels in fifth place by Dumbreck and Imperatori in the BMW.
The next race will be the seventh round of the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburging on 28 September 2019.
